The Norrebo litter box

I was searching for a new litter box for my cats. The old one was a bit small for 2 cats and even with the litter box closed, they always manage to put litter everywhere …

I had a relatively precise idea of the box:

  • large enough for 2 or 3 cats,
  • easy to open, for me, not for my monsters,
  • not looking like a litter box,
  • find a way to avoid litter ejection.

I thought the better solution was to use a bench, it's large enough to put a litter box inside, doesn't look like a litter box and long enough to store litter, rake, etc

but of course, impossible to find that in any store.

And there, I found the norrebo bench, the size was fine, not too complicated to add a lateral entrance, I just had to find a solution for the drawer. As I wanted an easy way to open the lateral entrance, the simplest solution I found is to use 4 magnets to hold the drawer front panel.

Here some photos of my realization.

There is a small problem with this Norrebo litter box, the front door is a little bit to small.
In the first version, to put the door at a correct height (7th photo), I fixed a lath of wood, big mistake !
Sometimes my cats miss their litter … and of course, it started to smell …
Second iteration, I fixed a metal stem, no more odor problem !
and added two small laths on each side for a better closure.
